Are you planning on renovating your kitchen?

Did you know that a quality kitchen renovation can add substantially value to your home, so it’s important to get it right!

To help you do this, we have asked some of the great cabinet makers in the Tradebusters network for their tips. We share below their top five:

1. Clean, functional and timeless is the look!
Some of the latest design trends include: no handles to push open doors, open plan kitchen styles, waterfall edge bench tops and under mount sinks.

2. “Custom-made” does not mean “unaffordable’.
Whilst, on the surface a flat pack kitchen may look cheaper in dollars, the reality is, it may be more costly when you add the associated costs of labour to remove and install the kitchen, or extra work needed if it doesn’t fit right. A quality custom made kitchen by a professional cabinet maker may not cost you much more (possibly even less) but will add considerable value and last you 15 years plus.

3. Quality kitchen fittings is a must.
Many recognised European suppliers offer a lifetime guarantee on hardware like kitchen door  hinges and drawer runners. Ask your cabinet-maker what type of fittings they will be using as cheaper alternatives could end up being more costly over time, especially if they ruin in months or in a few years.

4. A kitchen renovation must add value.
A complete kitchen renovation can cost anywhere from $10,000 to over $40,000 so it should be seen as an investment that will add incremental value to your property.  Ensure you don’t overcapitalise for the type of property or its location.

5. The selection of the right cabinet maker or kitchen renovator is critical to success.
The kitchen is the centre piece of the home so a poor quality finish will not go  unnoticed. Working with qualified tradespeople will guarantee your project is delivered on time, budget and to high quality standards. A good cabinet maker or kitchen renovator would be more than happy to share his work so don’t be afraid to ask to see other client projects and speak to them about the experience.
